This week marks Energy Saving Week, and we’re on hand to give you some top tips of easy ways to reduce your energy consumption with the ongoing cost of living crisis.

  1. Utilise microwaves and air fryers! They are the most efficient way to heat up and cook food and will get you a delicious meal in even faster time than an oven.
  2. Use glass or ceramic dishes in the oven, instead of metal ones. They will help to retain the heat and can even reduce the cooking time of your food!
  3. A super simple one! When transferring your clothes from the washer to the dryer, shake them out to prevent tangled items from taking longer to dry!
  4. Pick up some energy efficient lightbulbs to spend less around the house. Did you know LEDs use a quarter of the energy of incandescent bulbs? They can even last up to 25 times longer, so you’ll be helping the environment too!
  5. Reusable containers are an easy way to store your food without the excess waste of tin foil and cling film – and are great for meal prepping (where you can cook in bulk and save even more energy). Pick up some great options from Poundland!
  6. What material are your kitchen pans made of? Copper-bottomed pans heat up nice and quickly, and cast-iron pans retain heat efficiently, so these are better options than ones made of stainless steel.
  7. Pick up a washing up bowl rather than using a running tap to do the dishes.
  8. Taking shorter showers can save you money! Grab yourself a shower timer to help you save water and money – having 4 minute showers could save the average household £70 per year.
